Michael’s first plays, in which he usually took the role of a misunderstood monster, were performed in a neighbor’s backyard in Jackson, Mississippi. His first film script, in which he portrayed Tarzan, was shot at the Spence’s horse farm in rural Mississippi, where the wild animals were, of course, horses. Having mastered the crafts of writing for the theatre and for film, he moved on to drawing and painting as he entered both puberty and middle school.
Fortunately for both Michael and the art world, he returned to theatre in college and later, much later, again to writing. Unproduced film scripts and unpublished short stories are offered here to anyone who may be interested in reading them. Both full-length plays Pilgrimage and Skeletons had readings in New York thanks to Scott Hudson and workshop productions thanks to the Blank in Los Angeles (Pilgrimage) and The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta (Skeletons). His screenplay, The Storm, is based on his play, Leavings, which had workshops (under a different title) at The Cincinnati Playhouse and The Alliance Theatre as well as a full production at The Virginia Stage Company.
